The Saudi security forces have arrested a total of 20,778 illegal residents from various regions of the Kingdom during the last week. The arrests were made during the joint field security campaigns that were carried out in collaboration with the relevant government agencies during the period between Oct. 31 and Nov.6, the Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday. Those who were arrested included 11,523 violators of the Residency Law, 5,711 violators of the Border Security Law, and 3,544 violators of the Labor Law. The total number of people who were arrested while trying to cross the border into the Kingdom accounted for 1,569, of whom 24 percent were Yemeni nationals, 73 percent Ethiopian nationals, and three percent belonged to other nationalities. A total of 63 people were arrested while attempting to leave the Kingdom illegally. Fifteen people, who were involved in transporting, sheltering, and employing violators, were also arrested. A total of 20,363 expatriates, including 17,915 men and 2,448 women, are currently undergoing various phases of legal procedures as part of punitive measures against them.
