The High Criminal Court has sentenced two men to life imprisonment for attempting to smuggle 79 capsules of heroin into the country. The case highlights the vigilance of Bahrain’s customs authorities and the sophisticated methods employed by drug traffickers. An Asian national, arriving at Bahrain International Airport from Pakistan, was apprehended by customs officials after arousing suspicion. Initial searches yielded nothing, but a subsequent X-ray revealed numerous circular objects within his abdomen, strongly suggesting the presence of drug capsules. The suspect, upon questioning by the Anti-Narcotics Directorate, confessed to swallowing the capsules containing heroin and methamphetamine. He admitted to being paid 50,000 rupees to transport the drugs. Under medical supervision at Salmaniya Medical Complex, he excreted 79 capsules in total. Investigations by the Anti-Narcotics Directorate revealed the suspect was part of a larger network.
