LAGHOUAT — The candidate of the Movement of Society for Peace (MSP) for the upcoming September 7 presidential election, Abdelaali Hassani Cherif, affirmed on Monday in Laghouat that the responsibility of the people to protect the country implies massive participation in the presidential election.

“Protecting the country, maintaining its stability and preserving its unity does not fall solely on the People’s National Army (PNA); it is shared with the people and the government. The people’s responsibility implies massive participation in the election, giving the elected president legitimacy and support,” said Hassani Cherif at a public rally held at the “Tekhi Abdellah Ben Kriou” cultural house on day five of the election campaign.

In this respect, the candidate noted that “Algeria has paid the price for freedom and pluralism, making it essential to establish the foundations of a true democracy and stand firm against the country’s enemies who wish to exploit its resources, weaken it and force it to abandon its honorable positions in favor of just causes worldwide, especially the Palestinian cause.”

“The battle of identity is already won,” he affirmed, adding that “the Algerian people are Muslims and believe in diversity and living together.”

“The events our country has gone through have further bolstered the people’s unity and their attachment to their homeland,” he said.

Discussing his electoral program, Hassani Cherif said that it “offers a real opportunity for our country to bring about change, reconsider its choices and establish justice through the fair distribution of wealth based on the principle of equal opportunity. It also focuses on investing in human resources, tapping into capacities and skills, integrating youth by ensuring favorable conditions for investment and financing, in addition to combating corruption and bureaucracy.”

The candidate also promised to “set up a Zakat bank to back vulnerable groups by providing them with allowances and loans.”

He pointed out that Laghouat “is a strategic province with abundant resources, including major gas reserves, the largest water basin and a wealth of other natural resources; however, it needs a real economic boost through adopting forward-looking economic plans to promote its development.”
