Presidential election: Supporting strategic sectors, electoral speeches’ main focus

ALGIERS- As the presidential election campaign enters its 14th day, supporting the strategic sectors of the national economy has been the focal point of the discourses of candidates for the presidential election of 7 September and their representatives, who held numerous meetings and local activities on Wednesday.

The candidate of the Front of Socialist Forces (FFS), Youcef Aouchiche, who was a guest on El Mujaheed Forum, called for strong participation in this election in order “to lay the foundations for a diversified national economy capable of creating wealth,” which will shield Algeria “from external shocks and reduce its dependence on hydrocarbons, which should serve as support to the national economy,” he said.

The FFS electoral program proposed the establishment of “local economic hubs based on the specificities of each region to achieve a decentralized and balanced economy,” while also “promoting competitiveness and local initiative to boost investment and curb unemployment.”

Aouchiche who hosted a local activity in Blida also committed to “implement reforms in the Justice sector and uphold the Rule of Law, in addition to enhancing the prerogatives of the legislative power.”

Aouchiche has also put forward several proposals in his electoral program, notably on the social level, citing particularly, “preserving citizens’ purchasing power,” by “raising the national guaranteed minimum wage (SNMG) to DZD 40,000, eliminating the global income tax (IRG) on salaries under DZD50,000, increasing family allowances and establishing new allowances.”

The program also aims to “reform the tax system and crack down on the informal currency market. This, along with making tax collection more transparent, could generate new funding sources to back society’s most vulnerable groups.”

Urging people “not to give in to defeatist speeches,” the presidential candidate encouraged citizens to participate in the electoral process and turn out in large numbers to vote so as to face all attempts to destabilise the country.

The leaders of political parties supporting the independent candidate, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, emphasized, in popular meetings held in several provinces, the importance of voting for Abdelmadjid Tebboune, so that he can continue implementing his commitments, particularly in socio-economic development.

The secretary general of the National Democratic Rally (RND), Mustapha Yahi, said in Tlemcen that voting in favour of Abdelmadjid Tebboune will allow him to “continue supporting farmers, and thereby the process of building and achieving a solid economy.”

The president of El Moustakbal front, Fateh Boutbig, said that electing the independent candidate, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, will help develop the economy through the launch of major projects.

The secretary general of the National Activist Front (FMN) party, Abdallah Haddad, said in Aïn Temouchent that the program of the independent candidate, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, "attaches great importance to social issues, by improving the support provided to the different social groups, such as people with specific needs and housewives.”

The secretary general of El-Fadjr El-Djadid party, Tahar Benbaibeche, emphasized in Tlemcen, Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s interest in developing the agricultural and pharmaceutical industry sectors, as well as addressing social issues. Meanwhile, the president of the El-Bina Movement, Abdelkader Bengrina, urged voters to support the independent candidate to boost the national economy.

The candidate of the Movement of Society for Peace, Abdelali Hassani Cherif, committed during a popular meeting in Djanet, to promote development in southern regions by launching projects so as to meet the inhabitants’ expectations.

If elected, he committed, he would launch economic projects which “will improve the inhabitants’ quality of life and create job for youths,” underscoring that this province “has touristic potentials.”

The MSP candidate affirmed that his election program “encourages investment in the agricultural field and mining exploration” and is based on a policy that facilitates the creation of subcontracting companies in various fields.”

He called on citizens to “cast their ballots, so as to help establish the foundations of democracy, and to vote for him in the upcoming presidential election.”
