Presidential election: Candidates recommit to preserving State’s social character

ALGIERS-Candidates for the September 7 presidential election and their representatives reaffirmed on Sunday, on the 18th day of the campaign, their commitment to preserving the social character of the State and addressing the concerns of citizens, who were called on to vote massively to strengthen the inner front.

Leading a rally in the province of Bouira, the candidate of the Front of Socialist Forces (FFS), Youcef Aouchiche reiterated his commitment, if elected, to address the concerns of citizens through “concrete measures” to preserve purchasing power, stressing that the solutions contained in his electoral program responded to the “main demands of the Algerian people.”

In this respect, he promised to “raise the minimum wage to DZD40,000 and revise allowances for the lower-income categories of society,” stressing that preserving the purchasing power of citizens was one of his “priorities.”

He also pledged to carry out reforms in the justice sector and to provide the legislative institution “wider prerogatives”, while reiterating his appeal to Algerians “not to give in to defeatist rhetoric” and “to participate in change by going en masse to the polls to choose their President for the next five years.”

At a rally in Algiers, Brahim Merad, campaign manager for independent candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune, urged students and young people to turn out en masse to vote for Abdelmadjid Tebboune, given his achievements on behalf of this segment of society and his commitment to meeting their expectations and concerns.

He also highlighted the role of young people and students in the electoral program of independent candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as “a solid basis for achieving comprehensive national development.”

From El Bayadh, Abdelkrim Benmbarek, Secretary General of the National Liberation Front (FLN) called for a massive vote for the independent candidate, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for the continuation of the far-reaching reforms and achievements he has initiated, as did Mustapha Yahi, Secretary General of the National Democratic Rally (RND) (RND), who renewed his call in Ain Defla for Abdelmadjid Tebboune to be elected for a second term.

The president of the El-Bina Movement, Abdelkader Bengrina, reaffirmed his support for the independent candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The president of El Moustakbal Front party, Fateh Boutbig, said in Algiers that Abdelmadjid Tebboune “is the man of the next stage.”

Abdellah Haddad, Secretary General of the National Activism Party, Djamel Benabdeslam, President of the New Algeria Front (FAN), Mohamed Daoui, Secretary General of El Karama party, Lamine Osmania, President of the Sawt Echaab party, and Reda Benounane of the Talaie El-Hourriyet party all called for the re-election of Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

For his part, Abdelaali Hassani Cherif, candidate of the Movement of Society for Peace (MSP), said he would work to preserve the social character of the State, through the redistribution of wealth and the upward revision of social benefits for vulnerable groups.

In this vein, he pledged to revise the wage scale and the statutes of various categories of workers, stressing that he would transform the unemployment allowance into an integration allowance until beneficiaries could be integrated into economic enterprises. The MSP promised to create a special allowance for housewives.

He also asserted that Algeria had all the potential to become an emerging country.

Hosting a rally in Constantine for the same candidate, Fatma Saidane, a member of the MSP Executive Board, emphasized that Hassani Cherif's electoral program confirmed the role of Algerian women in the country's socio-economic development, and met the aspirations of the people.
