Terrorist surrenders to military authorities, 4 elements supporting terrorist groups arrested

ALGIERS — A terrorist turned himself in to military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, while detachments of the People's National Army (PNA) arrested four elements supporting terrorist groups in separate operations nationwide between September 4-10, as per a report released on Wednesday by the Ministry of National Defense.

“As part of the sustainable efforts in the fight against terrorism and the multifaceted organized crime, units and detachments of the PNA carried out, between 4-10 September 2024, many operations that led to quality results mirroring the high professionalism, vigilance and constant availability of our Armed Forces nationwide,” the same source said.

As part of the counter-terrorism fight, and “thanks to the efforts of PNA units, the terrorist named B.M known as Ishak, surrendered to military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar (6th Military Region), in his possession one Kalashnikov submachine gun, ammunition and other items. Meanwhile, other PNA detachments arrested four elements supporting terrorist groups in separate operations nationwide.”

As part of the fight against organized crime, and “in continuation of the ongoing efforts aimed to counter the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined detachments of the PNA intercepted, in coordination with the different security services during operations carried out throughout the Military Regions, 46 drug traffickers, foiled attempts to introduce 6 quintals and 5 kilograms of cannabis resin from the borders with Morocco, and sized 29 kilograms of cocaine along with 138,533 psychotropic pills,” the same source said.

In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar and In Guezzam, PNA detachments “arrested 935 individuals and seized 32 vehicles, 159 generators, 117 jackhammers, 8 metal detectors, as well as quantities of a mixture of raw gold and stones, explosives, detonation tools and equipment used in illegal gold mining operations.”

Similarly, “13 other individuals were arrested and one Kalashnikov-type submachine gun, one automatic pistol, nine hunting rifles, 26,749 liters of fuel as well as 6.5 tons of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and speculation were seized, during separate operations across the national territory,” the same source said.

The Coast Guard also “thwarted, on the national coasts, attempts of illegal emigration of 266 individuals aboard makeshift boats, while 191 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested nationwide,” the statement wrapped up.
