Presidential election: Constitutional Court ensures strict respect of candidates, electors rights

ALGIERS-The president of the Constitutional Court, Omar Belhadj, affirmed Saturday that the Constitutional Court has ensured the strict respect of the candidates and electors’ rights, the preservation of transparency, validity and integrity of the electoral process of the September 7 Presidential election.

“As part of exercising its constitutional prerogatives as an independent institution responsible for ensuring the respect of the Constitution, and given the importance of this national event, the Constitutional Court recalled the public that it has ensured the strict respect for the rights of candidates and voters, as well as the preservation of transparency, validity and integrity of the electoral process,” Belhadj said during the announcement of the final results of the September 7  Presidential election.

He also emphasized that “the Court gave utmost consideration to the appeals filed by candidates Abdelaali Hassani Cherif and Youcef Aouchiche, in accordance with the principles of constitutional justice, after a thorough review, correction, and adjustment of all electoral documents received from the provincial electoral commissions and the electoral commission of the national diaspora,” he said.

“The Constitutional Court informed the public that its statement along with its decisions on the appeals, will be published in the Official Journal of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria,” he added.

“The Constitutional Court congratulated the Algerians for the success of this major electoral event and extended its warm congratulations to the President of the Republic, wishing him great success in carrying out his noble duties,” he concluded. [/ecr]
