Communication Ministry: "Djazair El Ghad" daily suspended following release of misleading, undocumented news

ALGIERS-The Ministry of Communication announced Thursday in a statement the suspension of the printing of “Djazair El Ghad” (Tomorrow’s Algeria) daily after it published an article containing news that is “misleading, undocumented and contrary to the provisions governing journalism.”

“As part of the implementation of Article 80 of Law No.23-19 on written and electronic press, the services of the Ministry of Communication summoned, on Thursday, September 19th, 2024, the director of publication of the newspaper “Djazair El Ghad”, Adel Zekri and Issam Cheikh in his capacity as founder and executive director, to hear them concerning the article published in issue 10 of Djazair El Ghad newspaper of September 19th, 2024, written by Ammar Guerdoud, founder and CEO of the daily,” said the source.

“The article in question contains information that is misleading, undocumented and contrary to the provisions governing journalism, set out in Organic Law No.23-14 on Information, primarily Articles 3, 20 and 25, and the provisions of the Law No.23-19 on written and electronic press,” said the source.

“The Ministry of Communication decided to immediately suspend the printing of the daily in question and to initiate the legal procedures for the definitive cessation of the daily’s activity, in accordance with Article 54 of the Constitution and Article 70 of the law on written and electronic press,” said the source.[/ecr]
