Boughali holds talks in Geneva with speaker of India's lower house

ALGIERS- The speaker of the People's National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament), Brahim Boughali, held talks Wednesday, in Geneva, with the speaker of India's House of the People (lower house), Om Birla, on the sidelines of the proceedings of the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the lower house of Parliament said in a statement.

During the meeting, the two sides mentioned the "results of the historic visit by the president of India to Algeria, an opportunity for Birla to express his deep esteem and thanks to the president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for the warm welcome extended to the president of India."

Boughali said the visit of the President of India was an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various fields, expressing the hope that it would help to promote cooperation."

With regard to the historical relations between the two nations, Boughali mentioned "India's support to the Algerian Revolution," while the speaker of India's House of the People said that his country "draws its principles from the thought of the leader Mahatma Gandhi, who fought colonialism and imperialism and called for peace and cooperation among nations."

"The two sides stressed the importance of stepping up parliamentary cooperation and coordination, mainly in the international parliamentary fora, and agreed to exchange visits, share parliamentary experiences and consult regularly on issues of common interest."
