As part of the National Emigration Day commemorating the 63rd anniversary of 17 October 1961 massacres, themed “Pride in Belonging...Path of Fidelity,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf observed a minute of silence, in the presence of the ministry’s officials and staff, at 11:00 a.m. (Algeria time) at the headquarters of the ministry.
The commemoration ceremony began with the recitation of the Fatiha from the Holy Quran, followed by the raising of the national flag and listening to the national anthem.
In this respect, Attaf laid a wreath at the memorial stele for the martyrs of the Liberation War.
The commemoration was organized in accordance with the decision of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, taken in 2021, to observe a minute of silence across the entire national territory to commemorate this event.
During this event, a speech was delivered on this sad event and the crimes committed by France against unarmed Algerians, shooting dozens of them before throwing their bodies into the Seine, for only having peacefully demonstrated in the neighbourhoods of the French capital to denounce the racist decisions taken against them and to claim their legitimate right to freedom and independence.
A conference was held, by the president of the Algerian Commission of History and Memory, Mohamed Lahcen Zeghidi, and the Director General of National Archives, Mohamed Bounaama, on the sacrifices of the national community established abroad during the glorious War of Liberation.[/ecr]
