Government meeting reviews elderly protection, research activities

ALGIERS-Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui chaired a Government meeting on Thursday devoted to finalizing the examination of the draft law on elderly protection and a draft executive decree setting the modalities for non-salaried PhD holders to conduct contract-based research activities, the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement.

“The Prime Minister, Nadir Larbaoui, chaired on Thursday, 17 October 2024, a Government meeting devoted to finalizing the examination of the draft law amending and supplementing the law related to elderly protection, containing provisions aimed at enhancing social protection for this category, promoting its integration and diversifying care mechanisms, in line with the constitutional approach and relevant international reference frameworks, especially the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Following the directives of the President of the Republic to enhance the economic role of the university and foster its engagement with the business sector, the Government also reviewed a draft executive decree. This decree sets the modalities for non-salaried PhD holders to conduct contract-based research activities, to boost research quality, particularly in priority areas, such as food security, health security, water security and cyber-security.

Lastly, the Government heard communications on the progress of the project to build the motorway link connecting Djen-Djen port to the East-West motorway, and the Djedra dam construction project in Souk Ahras province, set for completion by year-end, in addition to sports facilities and structures.”[/ecr]
