These visits were made at the behest of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to strengthen bilateral relations with African countries and optimize joint work and coordination.
As part of his African tour, Attaf was received in Luanda on Saturday by the President of Angola, Joao Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, to whom he handed over a letter from the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, “conveying fraternal greetings and expressing willingness to pursue their joint efforts to open up broader prospects for relations of brotherhood, cooperation and solidarity between the two countries,” said a Ministry press release.
The meeting provided an opportunity to “discuss the aspects thrusts of the privileged relations between Algeria and Angola, as well as ways to give them fresh impetus in anticipation of high-level bilateral events.”
“The meeting provided an opportunity to examine the main issues on the African Union's agenda, and to underline Algeria's readiness to back President Joao Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço during his term as the continental organization's rotating president from next February,” said the source.
In addition, Attaf was received in Kampala on Friday by the President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, to whom he delivered “a message from the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, conveying his fraternal greetings and his willingness to pursue joint efforts to boost Algeria-Uganda.”
The meeting was an opportunity to “review the positive results achieved in implementing the decisions taken by the two leaders, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his brother, President Yoweri Museveni, during the latter's state visit to Algeria in March 2023.”
“The main issues on the agenda of the African Union (AU) were discussed, as well as current continental and international issues, notably developments in the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the Middle East region in general, in addition to the decolonization process in the Western Sahara.”
Attaf also visited Burundi, where he was received in Bujumbura on Thursday by the President of the Republic of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye, to whom he handed over a written message from the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to whom he “conveyed fraternal greetings as well as his willingness to continue working together with him to bolster relations of brotherhood, cooperation and solidarity between the two countries,” said a statement from the Ministry.
The two officials “discussed ways of giving concrete expression to the common willingness of the leaders of the two countries to promote relations between Algeria and Burundi, by taking measures to breathe new life into bilateral cooperation and strengthen joint coordination within the continental organization to meet the various challenges facing African countries.”
President Evariste Ndayishimiye shares with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune the idea of turning our two countries and nations first into emerging nations, then into developed nations,” Attaf told the press.
“We will stand shoulder to shoulder with our brothers and sisters in Burundi to achieve these common goals”, concluded Attaf.
As part of Algeria's efforts to foster relations with African countries, Selma Bakhta Mansouri, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of African Affairs, was received on Thursday by the President of Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traore, to whom she conveyed a message from the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
During the audience, Mansouri focused on cooperation between Algeria and Burkina Faso, “two brotherly countries that share a common history and a common future.”
“We are aware of the global situation, not only in Burkina Faso, but also in the Sahel”, she asserted, underlining that “Algeria is ready to support Burkina Faso's efforts in the fight against terrorism, and the preservation of national and regional stability.”
