The Minister of Communication was accompanied by the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of African Affairs, Bakhta Selma Mansouri.
“Following the death of the former U.S President, a friend of Algeria, Jimmy Carter, and on behalf of the Algerian government, I present to you, to the family of the deceased and to the entire friendly American people, my sincere condolences,” said in his message of condolence.
“In this painful ordeal, we can only recall the impressive journey of the late president, who left his mark in defending noble humanist principles and promoting the values of peace and tolerance, during his term as President of the United States of America, but also through his commitment and tireless efforts, notably in the name of the Carter Center and Habitat for Humanity,” the minister added.
“Algerians will always remember the deceased as a friend of Algeria and its people, for his pivotal role in strengthening the ties between our two countries. He will be remembered as an example of peace and human values,” said Meziane.
Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, was known for his courage, morality, and global peace efforts.
In terms of American-Algerian relations, Carter commended Algeria’s mediation in securing the release of American hostages in Iran in 1981, affirming that Algeria’s role was “positive” in the U.S-Iran negotiations.
