Algerian Government rejects, condemns French president’s statements

ALGIERS-The Algerian Government has rejected and condemned the statements made by the French President, Emmanuel Macron, describing them as “a shameless and unacceptable interference in an internal matter,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs said Tuesday in a press release.

“The Algerian Government took note, with great astonishment, of the statements made by the French President about Algeria, which, above all, dishonour the one who made them so carelessly and thoughtlessly. These statements can only be condemned and rejected for what they are: shameless and unacceptable interference in Algeria’s internal affairs,” said the same source.

“What the French President wrongly and falsely frames as a matter of freedom of expression runs counter to the laws of a sovereign and independent State. Rather, it amounts to challenging our country’s territorial integrity—an offense punishable under Algerian law,” added the press release.
