Foreign Affairs Committee President receives his counterpart from Russian Federation’s Duma

ALGIERS-The President of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and National Community Abroad at the People’s National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament), Mohamed Khouane, received on Thursday the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party’s parliamentary group and chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian Duma, Leonid Slutsky, the lower house of Parliament said in a press release.

During this meeting, which took place in the presence of the chairman of the Algeria-Russia parliamentary friendship group, Abdeslam Bachagha, the two parties “exchanged views on the state of relations between Algeria and Russia and prospects for their development,” emphasizing “the importance of strengthening them to further embody the political will of both countries and open new perspectives for strategic cooperation,” said the same source.

In this respect, Khouane welcomed the “solid historical relations between Algeria and Russia,” considering that “the expanded strategic partnership announced during the visit of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to Russia in 2023, constitutes an important turning point for promoting cooperation between the two countries.”

He also emphasized “the importance of implementing this partnership through practical initiatives in various fields, thus contributing to sustainable development and strengthening the position of both countries on the international for a.”

For his part, Slutsky expressed “his consideration for Algeria as an important strategic partner,” emphasizing “the Russian side’s commitment to maintaining and developing bilateral historical relations to meet common aspirations,” noting “Russia’s willingness to support joint projects that strengthen bilateral cooperation ties.”

The two parties also discussed mechanisms for strengthening parliamentary cooperation, insisting on “the activation of parliamentary friendship groups between the two countries, in order to promote constructive parliamentary dialogue and exchange experiences and expertise.”

On the international level, both parties reviewed regional and international issues of common interest, reaffirming the importance of “coordinating their positions in the best interests of both countries, and consolidating security and stability in the region and in the world,” concluded the press release.
