Attaf in New York to chair meetings as part of Algeria's presidency of Security Council

ALGIERS — Assigned by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, arrived Sunday in New York to chair a series of meetings and activities as part of Algeria's rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council for the current month of January, as per a ministry statement.

On this occasion, “the Minister of State will chair high-level meetings programmed at the Security Council at Algeria's initiative, focusing on critical issues facing the Arab world and the African continent, notably developments in the Palestinian issue, counter-terrorism efforts in Africa and cooperation between the United Nations and the Arab League,” the same source said.

The statement added that ahead of these high-level activities, Attaf “chaired a coordination meeting at the headquarters of Algeria's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, in the presence of Algeria's Permanent Representative, Ambassador Amar Bendjama and members of the Algerian diplomatic mission in New York.”

During his stay in New York, “the Minister of State will hold talks with UN officials, notably UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, and meet with counterparts from brotherly and friendly countries invited to participate in the aforementioned meetings,” the same source wrapped up.
