All symbols of resistance, revolution must have their fair share in cinematic works

ALGIERS - President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, said that on Sunday that all symbols of Algeria among the leaders of the popular resistance against colonialism and the glorious War of Liberation "must have their fair share in cinematic works," stressing that any event related to the Revolution "can be the theme of a film."

"All means have been mobilized for the production of a film worthy of the symbol of Algeria and the popular resistance, Emir Abdelkader," said the President of the Republic in a speech delivered at the opening of the National Conference on Cinema at the Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Center (CIC, Algiers).

"All our leaders among the chiefs of the popular resistance, such as Sheikh Bouamama, Sheikh El-Mokrani, Fatma N'Soumer, Boubaghla, as well as Benacer Benchohra and the Ouled Sidi Cheikh, and the leaders of the glorious War of Liberation, including those unknown to the public, must have their fair share in cinematic production," stressing that "any event related to the Revolution can be the theme of a film."

The President of the Republic praised, on this occasion, the rich history of Algerian cinema and paid tribute to all those who contributed to its glory.

He further recalled that "Algerian cinema was born from the womb of the glorious Revolution."

After expressing his pride in what the pioneers of Algerian cinema have achieved, the President of the Republic expressed his hope to see "the flame rekindled in the land of one and a half million martyrs, the land of resistance and history," recalling that Algerian cinema "has documented the sufferings of the Algerian people throughout the 132 years" of colonialism, just as it has documented "everything our country has endured to reach where it is today, after the Hirak, which impressed the world, without any bloodshed during months of peaceful marches."

"Thanks to its political consciousness, Algeria has reached a level of civilization that makes it a school," especially since, he said, "everything in our country is sacred, and the spirit of our martyrs still remains in our dear homeland," he said.

"Creation is free, and you have absolute freedom in your artistic creations, except for what targets Algeria and undermines the values of society and the nation's constants," he stressed.

For the first time since independence, artistic high schools have recently been established to "train high-level artistic talents and create a cultural climate that allows our country to move to another stage," he recalled.

Moreover, the President of the Republic invited the participants of this conference to share their opinions and proposals "freely," particularly regarding training fields, while working to find solutions to existing problems, such as the issue of movie theaters.
