General Said Chanegriha receives AFRICOM Commander

ALGIERS- General Said Chanegriha, Deputy Minister to the Minister of National Defence, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (PNA), received on Wednesday, at PNA General Staff headquarters, Army General Michael Langley, Commander of the United States Africa Command (US-AFRICOM), the Ministry of National Defence said in a press release.

“General Said Chanegriha, Deputy Minister to the Minister of National Defence, Chief of Staff of the PNA, received in audience, this Wednesday 22 January 2025, at the headquarter of PNA General Staff, Army General Michael Langley, Commander of the United States Africa Command (US-AFRICOM),” said the same source.

The welcome ceremony began with the salute to the national flag, followed by military honours presented by a formation of different PNA forces to Army General Michael Langley.

During this meeting, which was attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defence, Force Commanders, Department Heads and central directors of the Ministry of National Defence and the People’s National Army General Staff, as well as members of the American delegation, both parties “examined the state of bilateral military cooperation and exchanged views on matters of common interest,” noted the same source.

General Said Chanegriha delivered a speech in which he “welcomed the AFRICOM Commander and his accompanying delegation, and extended his congratulations to the friendly American people following the inauguration of the 47th President of the United States.”

“First, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Algeria and to take this opportunity to express my best wishes for the new year which, we hope, will see the realization of all our aspirations for success, security, peace and progress throughout the world,” he said.

“I would also like to present to you, and to the friendly American people, our most sincere congratulations following the installation of the 47th President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, while reiterating our aspiration to strengthen bilateral relations in various fields, including defence and security,” he added.

Furthermore, we wish to assure the United States, both government and people, of our deep sympathy and solidarity, following the recent fires that affected the State of California and the significant material and human damage they caused. We also wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” he said.

The General mentioned “the depth of historical relations between the two countries and welcomed the positive momentum that bilateral military cooperation is currently experiencing.”

“The partnership between the two countries is currently experiencing positive momentum in various fields, including defence and security. This momentum mirrors our willingness to promote this partnership to higher levels, serving the interests of both countries,” he noted.

In this respect, we welcome the excellence of Algerian-American military relations, based on rationality, pragmatism, and constructive dialogue, aiming to establish a lasting partnership,” he said.

For his part, Army General Michael Langley expressed “his satisfaction with his visit to Algeria and his aspiration to strengthen military cooperation relations. He also welcomed the level of multidimensional coordination between the two parties and the PNA’s contribution to establishing security and peace in the region,” noted the press release.

In conclusion, “a memorandum of understanding in the field of military cooperation was signed between the Ministry of National Defence of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria and the Department of Defence of the United States of America,” concluded the press release.
