During the meeting, focused on the ways to boost joint cooperation to back the efforts to establish stability and achieve development in the Sahel region, "both sides mentioned security challenges, climate change and the humanitarian issues facing the region as well as sustainable development," the statement said.

The importance to enhance international coordination to help Sahel countries deal with those multidimensional challenges was also stressed, the statement concluded.
