Mistreatment of Algerians at French airports denounced by Algerian press

ALGIERS- Several Algerian newspapers on Tuesday condemned the mistreatment of Algerian travelers at French airports, characterizing it as a deliberate punitive measure directed by the French Interior Minister.

The daily newspaper El Moudjahid reported that Algerian passengers, despite having valid visas, faced severe difficulties upon arrival at French airports on Monday, particularly in Paris. In an editorial titled “this minister is cynical,” the paper attributed these actions to French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau.

The newspaper described Retailleau as “a hostile and volatile figure” who they claim is behind these measures, arguing that his rhetoric promotes a policy of deliberately humiliating Algerian citizens.

Sous le titre "La bassesse nommée Retailleau", Le Soir d'Algérie a relevé que "ce mauvais traitement qui s'apparente à une démarche punitive est œuvre du haineux et de l'agité Retailleau".

Le Soir d'Algérie, in an article titled “The baseness of Retailleau,” attributed the mistreatment to what they called “the hostile and aggressive Retailleau.”

The paper reported that sources in Algiers see these actions as part of a broader pattern of anti-Algerian sentiment in French political and media circles, pointing out that Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau's department is deliberately escalating the already strained relations between the two countries.

For its part, the daily El Watan focused on reporting testimonies from Algerian passengers who “disapprove of the French border police's behavior,” noting that this “incident comes as calls for tightening visa requirements for Algerians are multiplying on the other side of the Mediterranean.”

Al Khabar took a more direct approach, featuring a front-page photo of the French Interior Minister with the headline 'Retailleau...minister of hate and hostility toward Algeria.'"  [/ecr]
