Merad meets in Rome with Italian counterpart

ALGIERS-The Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning, Brahim Merad, held talks on Tuesday in Rome, with his Italian counterpart, Matteo Piantedosi, on bilateral cooperation, with both parties emphasizing the need to continue joint efforts on security and development plans, the ministry said in a press release.

“As part of his working visit to Italy, the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning, Brahim Merad, met Tuesday at the Italian Interior Ministry’s headquarters with his Italian counterpart, Matteo Piantedosi, in the presence of Algeria’s ambassador to Italy, the Director General of National Security (DGSN), Ali Badaoui, and senior officials from both sides,” said the press release.

A Protocol of cooperation in police training was signed at the beginning of this meeting between the Higher School of Police (ESP) “Ali Tounsi” and the Italian Police Forces Training School, which provides “new axes for capacity building and exchange of expertise in various police specialties,” added the same source.

The meeting allowed to “evaluate cooperation between the two parties which is experiencing considerable progress, and to agree on a number of bilateral activities to strengthen the current dynamic, particularly in the areas of National Security, Civil Protection, training, decentralized cooperation and local economic development.”
