French nuclear explosions: President Tebboune calls for settlement of dispute

ALGIERS- President of the Republic, Abdelmadjd Tebboune, said that the settlements of the issues relating to French nuclear explosions and the use of chemical weapons by France in the South of Algeria was essential to resume bilateral cooperation, calling for these disputes to be addressed definitively.

[ecr] "It is essential. The issue of decontaminating nuclear test sites is mandatory from a human, moral, political, and military perspective," said the President of the Republic.

We were able to do it with the Americans, the Russians, the Indonesians, and the Chinese. We believe that Algeria must do the same with France, which must precisely inform us of the locations where these tests were conducted and where the materials were buried," said the President of the Republic in an interview with the French daily L’Opinion.

He further mentioned "the issue of chemical weapons used in Oued Namous."

Recalling that he began his career as a civil servant in Béchar, he said that "in the early 1970s, almost every week, we received complaints from livestock farmers about the deaths of their animals."

"We must not sweep the dust under the rug; these disputes must be resolved once and for all," he added. [/ecr]
