At the beginning of the meeting, Boughali welcomed “the deep-rooted and centuries-old bilateral relations between Algeria and Denmark,” hoping that this year would be one of coordination and consultation between the two countries, with a view to achieving peace and stability in the world.

Furthermore, Boughali deplored the incident of Quran burning that previously occurred in Denmark, stating that Algeria “is a country that enshrines respect for religions and beliefs and advocates peace and the rejection of extremism.”

He also welcomed the Danish Parliament’s adoption of a law criminalizing the desecration of sacred religious texts.

Boughali also reiterated his rejection of the European Parliament (EP) resolution concerning Algeria, calling for “respect of official communication channels, such as the Joint Commission between the Algerian Parliament and the EP.”

For her part, From Hoyer discussed the historical relations uniting the two countries, affirming her commitment to strengthen and consolidate them, particularly as part of Algeria’s investment law and government incentives that encourage Danish businessmen to invest in Algeria, according to the press release.

Referring to the Quran desecration incident, the ambassador assured that this act “does not represent Denmark’s position,” expressing, in this regard, her country’s rejection of “the European Parliament resolution concerning Algeria.”

As for parliamentary cooperation, she expressed her willingness to “strengthen the bridges of dialogue and consultation between the parliaments of both countries and to intensify visits between representatives of the two peoples,” revealing ongoing preparations for a visit by a delegation from the European Affairs Committee of the Danish Parliament to Algeria scheduled for next April, in order to establish communication channels that match the historical relations between the two countries, concluded the press release.
