Gaza ceasefire: Algeria hopes for ongoing mediation group efforts with international support

ALGIERS — Algeria expressed hope that the mediation group's efforts would maintain its momentum, with widespread international backing, to ensure the Gaza ceasefire agreement is implemented and monitored across all provisions and aspects, according to a Thursday press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs.

“As discussions enter their second phase—focusing specifically on bolstering the Gaza Strip ceasefire and broadly addressing the aftermath of the war imposed upon it—Algeria expresses hope to see the mediation group's efforts maintain its momentum with widespread international backing to ensure comprehensive implementation and monitoring of all aspects of this agreement,” the same source said.

The press release further underscored that “Algeria categorically rejects any plans aimed at displacing and removing Gaza's indigenous population, as part of a wider plan that strikes at the very core of the Palestinian national project.”

“Algeria stands firm in its conviction that lasting peace in the Middle East is inextricably linked to upholding the Palestinian people's rights through the establishment of their independent and sovereign state, in accordance with the internationally agreed “two-state” principle, as the just, lasting and definitive solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict,” the same source added.

“Based on this principle, Algeria emphasizes the imperative of unifying Palestinian territories—from Gaza to the occupied West Bank and al-Quds al-Sharif—with a view to realizing the Palestinian national project,” the press release said.

The same source concluded by warning that “attempts to obliterate, fragment or dismantle this project will serve only to extend the conflict, deepen the suffering of the Palestinian people and exacerbate regional insecurity and instability.”
