Attaf meets with Special Envoy of Mauritanian President

ALGIERS- Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held talks on Thursday with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, who is on an official visit to Algeria as the special envoy of Mauritanian President, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, according to a statement issued by the ministry.

[ecr] According to the statement, the meeting was an opportunity to discuss the "ways aimed at strengthening the relations of fraternity, cooperation, and complementarity between Algeria and Mauritania, in line with the directives of both countries' leaders, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his brother, President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani."

The two ministers further highlighted key Arab and African issues, particularly the developments concerning the Palestinian cause as well as the topics on the agenda of the African Union (AU), added the same source. 

The AU presidency will be transferred from the Islamic Republic of Mauritania to the Republic of Angola during the summit scheduled for mid-February in Addis Ababa, the source concluded. [/ecr]
