ALGIERS-The Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament), Brahim Boughali, held on Tuesday, a virtual meeting with the Speaker of the Central American Parliament and the Dominican Republic (PARLACEN), Carlos Hernandez, so as to boost cooperation ties between the two parliaments, the Lower House said in a press release.

“This meeting took place with the participation of the Assembly’s Vice-President, Hani Ahcene, Algeria’s Ambassador to Nicaragua, Ali Menguellati, and PARLACEN’s Vice-President, Guillirmo Ortega,” said the press release.

In his speech delivered on this occasion, Boughali “welcomed this meeting, which aims to strengthen cooperation ties between the two parliaments,” emphasizing “the importance of promoting dialogue and consultation between the Parliaments of African and Latin American countries, given the current global challenges.”

He also emphasized “the Lower House’s commitment to expanding cooperation ties and strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations, in accordance with the principles of mutual respect and common interests.”

In this respect, Boughali emphasized “the importance of cooperation between the People’s National Assembly and the PARLACEN, so as to strengthen the values of democracy, good governance and rural development,” he also expressed his “aspirations to raise the Algerian flag high in this parliament.”

For his part, Carlos Hernandez highlighted “the importance of deepening cooperation with the Lower House,” while welcoming “Algeria’s central role in Africa and its privileged position among member states.”

And to add that Algeria will be “a strategic partner” for the “PARLACEN” Parliament, capable of strengthening “joint action and parliamentary consultation between the two bodies.”

During the same meeting, PARLACEN’s Vice-President expressed his “satisfaction with strengthening cooperation between the two bodies, thanks to the existence of the essential legal framework,” calling for “intensifying parliamentary exchanges to strengthen bilateral relations.”

The Algerian Ambassador to Nicaragua, for his part, expressed “Algeria’s readiness and that of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, to support the joint efforts of both assemblies,” considering that “parliamentary diplomacy is an effective tool for strengthening cooperation between States.”
