High-level Security Council Meeting: Mansouri holds several bilateral meetings

NEW YORK (UN)- The Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of African Affairs, Bakhta Selma Mansouri, held on Tuesday, on the sidelines of her participation in a high-level public debate at the Security Council on the Practice of Multilateralism and Global Governance Reform, a series of bilateral meetings with several delegation heads participating in this meeting, as well as a number of UN officials.

Mansouri held meetings with Ahmed Maalim Faqi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, Jeje Odongo Abubakher, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uganda, as well as Francess Piagie Alghali, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sierra Leone.

These discussions, which allowed for exchange of views on regional and international issues, focused on ways to strengthen coordination and cooperation in international forums, particularly within the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN).

A meeting was held with representatives of the “A3+” (Algeria, Somalia, Sierra Leone and Guyana), which was devoted to an exchange of views on files on the Security Council agenda, particularly those concerning countries in Africa and Latin America.

Participants examined ways to strengthen consultation and coordination within the group to make its voice heard in the Security Council.

The Secretary of State also held talks with Cristina Duarte, UN Special Adviser for Africa, and Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee, Under-Secretary-General for Africa, with whom she discussed prospects for strengthening the partnership between Algeria and the UN in the field of peacekeeping and peacebuilding, particularly in Africa, as well as Africa-UN cooperation and coordination regarding issues of peace, security and development in Africa.
