Attaf meets with Russian counterpart

ALGIERS — The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held talks on Thursday in Johannesburg, South Africa, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, on the sidelines of the first day of the G20 ministerial meeting, the ministry said in a statement.

“On this occasion, the two parties commended the conclusions of the Algerian-Russian joint commission which met at the end of January in Algiers, and agreed to continue efforts to boost the Algerian-Russian strategic partnership, particularly in economic and trade aspects, in line with the high guidance of the leaders of the two friendly countries,” the statement added.

The two ministers also exchanged “views and analyses on several political files and regional and international issues, chief among them developments in the Palestinian question and the situation in the Sahel-Saharan region.”

“They reaffirmed the convergence of positions between the two countries, based on commitment to the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter," the statement wrapped up.
