“Boughali began his speech by inviting those present to recite al-Fatiha from the Holy Quran in memory of the martyrs killed by the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip and all occupied Palestinian territories, as well as the victims in Syria and Lebanon,” said the press release.

In his speech, the AIPU president emphasized the importance of this session hosted by Egypt, whose key role is supporting Arab causes.

He also commended the role of the AIPU general secretariat in monitoring the implementation of decisions and strengthening Arab parliamentary cooperation.

In this respect, Boughali underscored that this meeting comes at a critical juncture requiring Arab unity and the anchoring of Parliaments’ role as an effective mechanism contributing to strengthening joint action, highlighting the Union’s responsibility in defending the nation’s central causes, primarily the Palestinian cause.

“We must strengthen parliamentary action to support the Palestinian people’s resistance, expose the occupation’s practices in international forums and ensure legal protection for Al-Quds, capital of the State of Palestine.”

In this regard, Boughali emphasized the imperative to activate the Arab Parliamentary Action Document to support the Palestinian people, adopted during the 7th joint Arab Parliament-AIPU conference.

He also called for thorough preparation for the 150th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), scheduled in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) in April 2025, to pass an emergency clause reflecting the unified Arab position on the Palestinian cause and to rally support from African, Asian and Latin American Parliaments.

As for the situation in Syria, he insisted on the need to support a political solution that preserves Syria’s unity and sovereignty and ensures the return of displaced persons and refugees to their homes far from any external interference.

He concluded his speech by emphasizing the importance of uniting Arab parliamentary efforts to face regional and international challenges, affirming that “it is the duty of Arab Parliaments to keep the Palestinian cause at the forefront of the international fora.”

And to reaffirm Algeria’s commitment, as AIPU president, to support Arab parliamentary action and strengthen its role in serving the nation’s causes, concluded the press release.
