Boughali meets Mercosur Parliament President

ALGIERS — The Speaker of the People's National Assembly (lower house of Parliament), Brahim Boughali, met with the President of the Mercosur Parliament (Parlasur), Arlindo Chinaglia, on the sidelines of his participation in the inauguration ceremony of Uruguay's President-elect, where he represented the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, according to a statement issued by the lower house on Sunday.

Saturday's meeting provided an opportunity to discuss “ways to reinvigorate joint cooperation, enhance coordination in various fields of mutual interest and highlight the role of Parliaments in building communication channels between countries and supporting policies that promote development and stability,” the statement said.

The two parties underscored “their willingness to activate cooperation between these two parliamentary bodies through exchanging visits and expertise, and coordinating positions on issues of regional and international significance.”

In this regard, the importance of exchanging expertise, notably in the field of economic policies, was emphasized.

Both parties also discussed successful experiences in investment, trade and sustainable development, according to the same source.

During this meeting, they also noted the need to “strengthen coordination in international and regional fora through unified stances that reflect common interests and contribute to the strengthening of South-South cooperation, in addition to defending just causes in international parliamentary organizations,” the statement wrapped up.
