Army captures terrorist, three others surrender in one week

ALGIERS — A terrorist was captured in Tamanrasset, three terrorists surrendered to military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, and ten terrorist supporters were arrested by detachments of the People’s National Army (PNA) in various operations conducted between February 26 and March 4, 2025, according to a PNA operational report released on Wednesday.

“During the period from February 26 to March 4, 2025, as part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and multifaceted organized crime, PNA units and detachments executed multiple operations yielding significant results. These outcomes reflect the high professionalism, vigilance, and constant readiness of our Armed Forces across the national territory,” the report stated.

In counter-terrorism efforts, a PNA detachment in Tamanrasset captured the wanted terrorist Malaoui Tahar, recovering one RPG-7 rocket launcher, two Kalashnikov machine pistols, one machine gun, a quantity of ammunition, and other items. Similarly, in the 6th Military Region, three terrorists surrendered to military authorities in Bordj Badji Mokhtar: Larbi Ladmi, known as “Saddam”; Ita Lamine, known as “Houdhaïfa”; and Ben Kheia Siouit, known as “Abou Daoud.” They handed over two Kalashnikov machine pistols, three additional firearms, ammunition, and other items. PNA detachments also arrested ten terrorist supporters in separate operations.

In the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking, combined PNA detachments, in coordination with various security services, intercepted 36 drug traffickers across military regions. They thwarted attempts to smuggle 331 kilograms (3 quintals and 31 kilograms) of cannabis across the Moroccan border and seized 929,875 psychotropic tablets.

In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Salah, and Djanet, PNA detachments arrested 244 individuals and confiscated 33 vehicles, 265 generators, 159 jackhammers, and quantities of mixed raw gold, stones, explosives, and detonation equipment used in illegal gold mining operations.

Additionally, 44 other individuals were arrested, and one Kalashnikov machine pistol, one machine gun, three shotguns, seven pump-action rifles, 7,830 liters of fuel, eight quintals of tobacco, and nine tonnes of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and profiteering were seized during various operations.

Finally, 716 illegal immigrants of various nationalities were apprehended across the country.[/ecr]
