National Production Fair: President of the Republic insists on meeting domestic market’s needs

ALGIERS-At the inauguration of the 32nd edition of the Algerian Production Fair on Thursday, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune took a close look at the significant progress made by Algerian production and service companies in various sectors, both in terms of quantity and quality, leading a drop in imports and an increase non-hydrocarbon exports.

The President of the Republic spoke at the inauguration ceremony of the 32nd edition of the Algerian Production Fair he chaired at the Pins Maritimes Exhibition Palace (Algiers), in the presence of Prime Minister, Nadir Larbaoui, the Chief of Staff at the Presidency of the Republic, Boualem Boualem, Government members and several ambassadors.

After he listened to a presentation on the activities of Algerian companies, made by the Minister of Domestic Trade and National Market Regulation, Tayeb Zitouni, the President of the Republic visited the stand of the National Defence Ministry, where he stressed that “the military industry is a model to follow and the locomotive of national industry.”

“The Army has reached a level in the industry sector that I would like to see matched by other companies,” he said, hailing the high integration rate in the military industry.

He affirmed that a partnership with South Africa in spare parts would foster the automotive industry, especially as 70 Algerian companies are active in the production of spare parts.

At the stand of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), President Tebboune underscored the need to implement the single-window service before January 2025, stressing that “investors should only use the single-window service.”  

While visiting the stand of the FIAT car manufacturer, the President of the Republic inquired about production, stressing that Algeria seeks to develop the automotive industry, including spare parts sub-contracting. In this regard, he referred to the possibility for investors to engage in investments adapted to society’s needs by increasing the integration rate to 50%.

The Algerian State’s policy adopted recently encourages domestic production to “reduce the import bill by 40%,” recalled President Tebboune, stressing the need to make no distinction between military, public and private companies as they all contribute to Algerian production.

In this regard, the President of the Republic also underlined the need to improve citizens’ living conditions through domestic production, saying that the Algerian population is about to reach 60 million inhabitants.  

With a view to encourage the use of renewable energy, the President of the Republic has given instructions to gradually generalize solar-powered public lightening as of 2025, especially in large cities, stressing that this move aims to reduce a significant financial burden on commune budgets.

At LaBelle Group specializing in food products, the President of the Republic affirmed that export was only possible after covering the domestic market’s needs.

As for the agricultural equipment industry, President Tebboune said the authorization granted to farmers to import second-hand tractors aimed at meeting increasing needs, calling the National Agricultural and Fishing Equipment Company (ENMAP) to contribute to organizing the second-hand tractors market while strengthening production.

President Tebboune emphasized the importance of drawing on the experience of other countries in the production of agricultural equipment, establishing partnerships and turning more towards research and development to provide developed equipment that meets farmers' expectations, stressing that this approach would increase the attractiveness of the agriculture sector for students and modernize certain agricultural activities, such as olive harvesting.

At the CEBON stand, the President of the Republic expressed his pride in the success and worldwide popularity of the El Mordjene spread. “You must continue on this path and consider the local production of hazelnuts,” he said.

 At the stand of the National Iran and Steel Company (SNS), the President of the Republic stressed the importance of adapting production to the needs of the national market, rather than focusing solely on exports, particularly after the registration of 11,000 new projects by the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI), which require metal structures for their implementation.
