Tafer participates in 4th international ministerial meeting of ministers in charge of mining affairs

ALGIERS — The Secretary of State to the Minister of Energy, in charge of Mines, Karima Tafer, took part in the 4th international ministerial meeting of ministers in charge of mining affairs being held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during which she outlined Algeria’s mining sector development program, according to a Wednesday statement from the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Renewable Energy.

In a speech delivered Tuesday during this meeting held as part of the international mining conference, Tafer highlighted Algeria's commitment to advancing its mining sector and boosting mineral resource exploitation.

She emphasized that developing this sector is crucial as one of the fundamental pillars of sustainable economic development, according to the statement.

The State Secretary also emphasized the importance of responsible and sustainable resource investment in line with international environmental standards.

She then outlined Algeria's strategies for developing mining infrastructure and enhancing international cooperation in mineral exploration and production.

She also highlighted Algeria's active role in expediting exploration and production projects while adhering to sustainability standards, aiming to strike a balance between industrial advancement and environmental protection.

The Algerian delegation at the meeting was headed by Tafer and included Sonarem group CEO Belkacem Soltani, along with officials from both the ministry and Sonarem, the same source said.
