Second phase of national product economic census to launch January 27

ALGIERS-The Ministry of Domestic Trade and National Market Regulation plans to launch the second phase of the national product economic census on January 27, with the aim of finalizing the development of a precise and comprehensive national database of all economic activities, said Saturday, in Algiers, the minister of the sector, Tayeb Zitouni.

In a statement to the press on the sidelines of the National Meeting of sector executives, Zitouni noted that “the second phase of the national economic census will be launched on January 27,” in coordination with the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI), emphasizing that this operation will allow to “meet national demand and ensure food security through a precise and comprehensive database of all economic activities.”

Thanks to this census, whose first phase was launched on 7 May 2023, “there will be an exact definition of national production capacities and the development of a national file of different production units, using digitization, to enable public authorities to frame the import operation, direct investment operations and better distribute them across the national territory in order to create specialized industrial poles,” according to the minister.

In this respect, Zitouni emphasized “the necessity of involving all stakeholders to ensure the success of this operation which comes to fill the void observed in studies and statistics, given their major importance.”
