Omani Agriculture Minister applauds Algeria's “pioneering” experience in food security

BLIDA — The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources of the Sultanate of Oman, Saud bin Hamoud Al-Habsi, during his visit to Blida on Wednesday, commended Algeria's “pioneering” experience in establishing food security, calling for strengthened bilateral cooperation to benefit from this experience.

During his visit to Vitroplant Algeria—an Italian-partnered tree seedling producer in Beni Tamou—the Omani minister, accompanied by local officials, praised “Algeria's efforts to ensure food security for its population,” particularly in the field of strategic crops.”

In this regard, he stressed Oman's keen interest in agricultural collaboration with Algeria to tap into its expertise, foreseeing significant joint projects between both nations in the coming years.

Regarding Vitroplant Algeria, he said that the company “can contribute to providing seedlings of various fruit trees, including almond and olive trees and potato seeds, which are strategic crops needed by many countries.”

The Omani minister and his accompanying delegation learned about the different stages of seedling production, before following a presentation on the company's potato seed production project.

The visit of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources of the Sultanate of Oman to Blida is part of implementing the results of the meeting between His Majesty Sultan Haitham Ben Tariq and the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, during his official visit to the Sultanate of Oman in 2024.
