Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline: Algiers trilateral ministerial meeting takes decisive step

ALGIERS- The signing of significant agreements on the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline project Tuesday, in Algiers, at the end of the project steering meeting, is a decisive turning point in the process initiated by the three countries concerned (Algeria, Nigeria, Niger) to achieve this regional integration infrastructure of international scope with multidimensional impact.

The fourth Trilateral Steering Committee Ministerial Meeting about the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipelines project, bringing together the energy and oil ministers of the three African countries, was crowned by the signing of significant agreements to pick up the pace of the execution project.

One of the agreements is about updating the project feasibility study, signed by Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energy Mohamed Arkab, Nigeria's Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Ekperikpe Ekpo, and Niger's Oil Minister Sahabi Oumarou.

The three partners also signed a compensation contract and a non-disclosure agreement, signed by the CEO of Sonatrach, Rachid Hachichi, the executive deputy chairman of gas, electricity and new energy at the Nigerian company NNPC LTD, Olalekan Ogunleye, and the general manager of Niger's oil company SONIDEP, Ali Seibou.

The signing of the agreements was preceded by the memorandum of agreement concluded during the third tripartite ministerial meeting, held in Algiers on 28 July 2022, in which the three sides reiterated their commitment to continue coordination and joint action to achieve the project.
