Renewable Energy: Zouhair Hamdi, RCREEE's new Executive Director

ALGIERS- Algerian Zouhair Hamdi was elected, by an absolute majority, the new Executive Director of the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) which includes 17 Arab countries, the ministry of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energy said on Thursday in a Communiqué.

[ecr] Zouhair Hamdi was elected to head the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) after a voting session that took place at the end of the 24th meeting of the Center, held on February 18-19 in Kuwait.

The meeting was attended by Secretary of State for Energy, responsible for Renewable Energies, Noureddine Yassaâ, and Algerian Ambassador to Kuwait, Abdelkader Kacimi el Hassani, according to the statement.

This appointment "crowns Hamdi’s exceptional career in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency, given his experience in developing clean energy strategies, strengthening regional and international cooperation in this vital sector, energy policies and strategies for energy transition, renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate change, and economic development as part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals," the source added.

The new Executive Director of RCREEE holds a PhD in International Relations and Middle Eastern Studies from Durham University (UK), with a thesis titled "A Prospective Study on the Diversification of Energy Sources in the Electricity Generation Sector in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries by 2050."
