This initiative is part of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on Wednesday in Niamey (Niger) by the public Group and Niger's electricity company “Nigelec”, with a view to strengthening cooperation and partnership relations between the two parties.

Signed by Sonelgaz Group CEO Mourad Adjal and “Nigelec” General Director Fati Abarchi, this document includes a series of clauses defining cooperation and partnership terms between the two parties, contributing to opening new development perspectives that serve the common interests of both countries and boost their economic standing in the region, the statement said.

“As part of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, the President of the Republic has decided to donate to Niger the construction of a 40-megawatt power plant, in order to help this country overcome challenges in meeting the energy needs of citizens,” Adjal stated during the signing ceremony.

This agreement is part of “implementing the directives of the country's high authorities and in realization of the conclusions from the meeting between the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance of Niger, in August 2024, aimed at revitalizing economic relations between the two countries.”
