World Para Powerlifting Cup: Algerians Merar, Guerioua snatch gold

 

CAIRO (Egypt)- Algerian para-powerlifting athletes Nacera Merar (79kg) and Samira Guerioua (45kg) on Saturday won a gold medal at the 2023 World Para Powerlifting Cup (men and women) in Cairo, Egypt, in which 70 athletes from 12 countries, including six Algerians, are competing, the Algerian Disabled Federation said Saturday.

On Friday, Algerian Hocine Bettir (-65kg) received a gold medal with a lift of 190kg in his first trial, allowing him to rank first, ahead of Egyptian Ahmed Abdelathim Mondy (120kg) and Namibian Kamenye Kapuma (75kg).

The bronze medallist of the Paralympics in Tokyo 2020 is already qualified for the 2024 Paralympics in Paris.

In the world championships in Dubai, last August, Bettir ranked fourth with a lift of 198kg (in the third trial).

The Cairo 2023 World Para Powerlifting World Cup is an opportunity for athletes to get additional points, in their rankings, with the aim of qualifying for the 2024 Paralympics in Paris.
