African Track Cycling Championships 2024 : Two medals for Algeria

CAIRO-The Algerian men’s and women’s track cycling team clinched two medals (one gold and one bronze) on the opening day of the African Track Cycling Championships 2024, held on Wednesday in the Egyptian capital Cairo.

The gold medal was harvested by the national men’s elite team in the team pursuit event.

The national quartet was made up of Yacine Chalel, Lotfi Tchambaz, El Khassib Sassane and Salah-Eddine El Ayyoubi Cherki.

The bronze medal also went to the national men’s elite team, in the team sprint event, except that this time, the group consisted of the trio Zakaria Bouder, Mohamed Nadjib Assel and El Khassib Sassane.

For their part, the women’s elite team representatives competed only in the Scratch event on this opening day. Only Sihem Bousebaa raced, settling for the fourth place. 

Algeria is competing with ten cyclists, eight men and two women. The other two national representatives are Hamza Megnouche (Elite) and Anes Riyahi (Junior).

The women are coached by Samir Allem, while the men are coached by national coach Abdelbasset Hannachi.[/ecr]
