Algeria wraps up African Track Cycling Championships with 21 medals

CAIRO-The Algerian team secured 21 medals (five gold, eight silver and eight bronze) at the end of the last day of the African track cycling Championships (men, women), held on Sunday in the Egyptian capital Cairo, the Algerian Cycling Federation (FAC) said Monday.

The five gold medals were harvested by the national men’s elite team in the team pursuit event, namely Yacine Chalel (Elimination, Elite/Men), the duo Salah Eddine Ayoubi Cherki and Mohamed Nadjib Assel (Madison, Elite/Men), Anes Riyahi (Elimination, Juniors/Men), and Mohamed Nadjib Assel in the Points Race (Elite/Men).

The silver medals were won by Lotfi Tchambaz (Pursuit, Elite/Men), El Khassib Sassane (One Kilometer Race, Elite/Men), Hamza Megnouche (Bridge Race and Elite/Men Elimination), Anes Riyahi (Points Race and Junior/Men Scratch), Zakaria Bouder (Scratch/Elite) and Nesrine Houili in the Women's Elite Individual Pursuit.

The cyclists that won the bronze are Salah Eddine Ayoubi Cherki (Pursuit, Elite/Men), Lotfi Tchambaz and Zaki Bouder in the Madison (Elite/Men), Mohamed Nadjib Assel (Keirin Elite/Men), Nesrine Houili (Elimination and 500m Race, Elite/Women), the national selection (Elite/Men) in the Team Sprint event, Anes Riyahi (Individual Sprint/Juniors) and Lotfi Tchambaz (Men's Elite Open).

Algeria is competing with ten cyclists in this competition, eight men and two women. The other two national representatives are Hamza Megnouche (Elite) and Anes Riyahi (Junior). 

The women are coached by Samir Allem, while the men are coached by the national coach Abdelbasset Hannachi.[/ecr]
