Wrapping up the first half with a disadvantageous score (14-15), the Algerian team managed to change the course of the game in the second half to win with a wide margin (36-23) and qualify for the world championship 2025, to be held in Croatia, Denmark and Norway.
In the semifinal, on Thursday (January 25), the teammtes of Messaoud Berkous will play Cape Verde, who easily beat Morocco (31-22).
In the first round, the Algerian team dominated Group C by winning respectively against Gabon (31-27), Libya (34-19) and Morocco (30-23).
The other two quarter finals will take place Tuesday between Egypt and Angola (16:00) and Tunisia and Guinea (18:00).
The two leaders of each group will qualify for the quarter final while the third and fourth will compete in the President's Cup.
The winner of this continental handball event will directly qualify for the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris, while the other finalist (ranking second) will compete in a qualifying tournament in March.
The five countries topping the rankings of the CAN 2024 will represent Africa in the World championship 2025 in Croatia, Denmark and Norway.
