Brahami Lamine topped the leader board with eight victories out of nine rounds, ahead of the Tunisian Omar Jmila with 6.5 points.
The other Algerian Khalil Bengherabi rounded out the podium with 6 points.
As this zonal phase wrapped up, Brahami Lamine qualified for the individual Chess World Cup, whose date and location are to be determined.
The competition director and international referee, Tabti Merouane, said that this zonal phase had an “appreciable” technical level.
It is played according to the Swiss system in nine rounds, with a time control of 90 minutes per game with an addition of 30 seconds per move.
This five-day competition brought together 25 male chess players representing four African countries from zone 4.1, namely Algeria, Tunisia, Mauritania and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
It was organized by the Bejaia Regional Chess League in collaboration with the Algerian Chess Federation, under the aegis of the African Chess Confederation.[/ecr]
