African Badminton Championship: Algeria beat Nigeria (3-2), maintain title

CAIRO (Egypt)- Algerian senior men's national badminton team managed to maintain its African title by beating Nigeria (3-2), in a final game held Thursday evening in Cairo, Egypt.

The Algerian players managed to reverse the score after they were dominated by 1-2.

It is the fourth African title of Algeria, the title-holder of the previous edition (2023) in South Africa.

Algeria had qualified for the final by beating Mauritius (3-1) in a semifinal on Wednesday, while Nigeria had defeated the host country (3-2).

In the pool stage, Algeria topped the ranking of Group A with sixth points, after its victory against Uganda (5-0), Zambia (5-0) and Egypt (3-2).

A total of 80 athletes, including 40 girls, from eight countries have competed in Cairo's championship, namely host country Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria, Mauritius, South Africa, Cameroon, Zambian and Uganda.

Algeria competed in the events with 12 athletes, including two girls, in addition to two national coaches and the manager of the national teams, as the delegation chief.
