‎2024 Karate 1 Premier League Antalya: Algerian Cylia Ouikene wins bronze

ANTALYA (Türkiye)- Algerian karateka Cylia Ouikene (-50 kg) won Sunday the bronze medal of the 2024 Karate 1 Premier League in Antalya, Türkiye, by beating Portuguese Katarina Rodriguez, the Algerian Karate Federation said.

The Algerian athlete managed to achieve three victories in three fights in the pool stage: against Moroccan Chaima Al Hayati, Spanish Nadia Gomez Morales and Salvadoran Izaguiri Gabriela.

In the quarterfinal, Ouikene lost to Kazakh Moldir Zhangvyrbay, the world champion in the category, which led her to compete for the bronze medal.

Her compatriot Louiza Abouriche (-55 kg) will fight this Sunday for the bronze medal, after she had reached the semifinals of the world competition.

In the pool stage, the Algerian athlete achieved two victories and a draw.

She started by beating her Luxembourger opponent Jenifer Warling then Ukrainian Anzolikha Troliga.

In the quarterfinal, Louiza Abouriche beat Switzerland's Maya Chaier on the referee's decision, before losing to Italian Lola Fiola (5-4) in the semifinal.

The Premier League of Antalya is a competition that is part of the International Karate Federation's calendar, bringing together every year world's best karatekas.
