ALGIERS- The minister of Communication, Mohamed Laagab, said Thursday in Algiers that media centres in stadiums would be named after sports journalists from next May 3, marking the celebration of the World Press Freedom Day.

In a presentation made before the Committee on Youth, Sports and Association Activities, of the People's National Assembly (lower house of Parliament), the minister said that "in implementation of the measures decided by the president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in support of the national press, media centres in stadiums will be named after sports journalists on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day, celebrated on May 3rd."

Emphasizing the growing "interest" of Algerian media in covering sports events drawing the interest of the young, who represent 70% of society," the minister stressed the need to give a "special focus to sports media."
