African Open Championships (Day 2): Algerian swimmers clinch four additional medals  

LUANDA (Angola)- Algerian swimmers snatched four additional medals (1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) on Wednesday, the second day of African Open Championships (April 30 – May 5) in Luanda, Angola.

The gold medal was won by swimmer Amel Melih in the 50m butterfly, setting a new national record (27.14), while the two silver medals went to Jaouad Syoud in the 100m breaststroke (1:02.53) and the 4x100-meter mixed medley relay (4:01.02).

The bronze medal was received by Fares Ben Zidoune in the 200m freestyle (1:53.14).

With the three new medals, Algeria's medal tally has reached seven (2 gold, 3 silver, 2 bronze).

On the first day, the Algerian medals were won in the 4x100m freestyle mixed relay (gold), Jaouad Syoud (silver, 200m butterfly) and Fares Ben Zidoune (bronze, 200 m butterfly).

Algeria is competing in the African swimming championships, in Luanda, with a total of ten swimmers (men and women), under the supervision of national coaches Mouloud Bouchendouka and Elyes Nefsi, with the aim of winning four gold medals, according to the Algerian federation.

In addition to continental titles, Algerian swimmers will try to perform well in the African championships to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris (2024).
