KOBE (Japan) – Algeria’s Skander Djamil Athmani has become the new world champion in the 400m T13 event, following his victory on Thursday in the final of the 11th World Para Athletics Championships taking place in Kobe, Japan, until 25 May, setting a new world record in the event.

After his golden performance in the 100m (T13) final and a commanding victory in the 400m semi-final, Athmani Skander Djamil continued his remarkable form on day 7 of the Kobe competitions. He easily claimed the 400m final in 46.44, smashing his own world record time of 46.70 set at the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics.

Rounding out the podium in the event were Japan’s Fukunaga Ryota with a time of 47.86, and Colombia’s Bermudez with a time of 49.07.

Algeria’s medal tally on the 7th day received a further boost with Mokhtar Didane securing a bronze medal in the 100m T36 final.
