Zahra Tatar wins gold in hammer throw at African Senior Athletics Championships

DOUALA – CR Belouizdad athlete Zahra Tatar secured Algeria’s first gold medal at the African Senior Athletics Championships currently taking place in Douala, Cameroon, by winning the women’s hammer throw event.

On the second day of the competition, Louai Lamraoui also secured a spot in the men’s long jump final, achieving a leap of 7.34 meters during the qualifying rounds.

Algeria is fielding a team of 20 athletes (15 men and 5 women) at the 23rd African Senior Athletics Championships, taking place from 21-26 June.

The team was originally set to include 21 competitors, but triple jumper Yasser Mohamed Tahar Triki pulled out at the eleventh hour, opting to focus on preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
