ORAN-Nearly 300 fencers from 37 countries will partake in the first stage of the Fencing World Cup (sabre) of the 2024-2025 season, taking place on 7-10 November in Oran, the President of the Directorate in charge of managing the Algerian Fencing Federation (FAE), Omar Benaddouda said on Wednesday.

In a press conference held at Miloud-Hadefi sports complex, which houses the individual and team competitions, Benaddouda said he expects this world event to be of a “high level.”

“As this is the first international competition after the Olympic Games, we did not expect that the event organized by our Federation would attract so many participants. This is already a first success,” said Benaddouda.

“The list of participants includes some Olympic medallists, such as the Tunisian Farès erdjani, mirroring the special interest shown by the best fencers in this world cup, especially since the sports site chosen to host the event is of high quality,” he added.

Through the organization of this first stage of the World Cup in Oran, the FAE aims to further promote this discipline in Algeria, said the same speaker, commending the significant momentum fencing is gaining in the country, “as evidenced by the creation of several new clubs in 14 provinces.”[/ecr]
